Practice Emphasis

Jeff Ansley's practice focuses on the defense of individuals and companies involved in federal white collar investigations and charged proceedings, emphasizing fraud and public corruption cases by the Department of Justice and FBI and enforcement proceedings by the Securities and Exchange Commission, state securities regulators and other enforcement agencies.  A former federal criminal prosecutor and enforcement attorney, Jeff has an insider’s knowledge of the tactics and resources used by federal prosecutors and investigators against his clients.  His practice concentrates on the defense of clients involved in federal criminal and enforcement proceedings and both parallel and separate white collar investigations.  Jeff frequently defends clients in criminal matters involving allegations of securities fraud, public corruption and bribery, bank fraud and other alleged complex crimes.

Jeff also handles federal and state administrative actions instituted by securities and banking regulators, including acting as counsel for corporations, broker-dealers, investment advisors, and officers and directors of regulated entities.  As part of his securities defense practice, he frequently appears before the United States Securities and Exchange Commission, the Texas State Securities Board and similar state regulatory bodies, and the United States Department of Justice.  He also conducts internal investigations on behalf of corporate clients.  Jeff has served as lead counsel in numerous jury and non-jury trials and grand jury proceedings.  He has been named a Super Lawyer by the Texas Lawyer.

Before entering private practice, Jeff served as an Assistant U.S. Attorney in the Major Fraud and Public Corruption Section of the United States Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Texas.  As a federal prosecutor, Jeff successfully tried and prosecuted multiple complex securities fraud cases and other complex crimes.  He also led the Securities Fraud Task Force for the Northern District, coordinating the actions of a multi-agency criminal and regulatory task force.  Jeff was appointed as a Special Assistant U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of Oklahoma.

Jeff’s substantial securities background includes having served as an enforcement attorney with the Fort Worth Regional Office of the Securities and Exchange Commission.  While with the SEC, Jeff investigated a wide variety of suspected federal securities laws violations, including matters involving possible financial and accounting fraud, offering frauds, insider trading, registration violations and regulatory compliance matters.
